West China Meets Western Canada Trade and Investment Conference

A Brief Introduction

In October 2001, the Canada-China Council for Cooperation and Development sponsored and organized "West China Meets Western Canada" - A Trade and Investment Conference in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

The first of its kind, the Conference was developed as a follow-up of the most recent Team Canada Mission to China led by Prime Minister Jean Chretien. And the conference received firm support with active participation from all levels of the Canadian government, including the Office of the Prime Minister, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of International Trade, Ministry of Industry, Ministry of Western Economic Diversification, Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation, the Province of Alberta, the City of Edmonton and all corresponding Provincial counterparts.


About 30 Canadian government representatives and officials, and 50 business leaders in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba participated in the conference. The World Bank,

This event was espoused with positive, enthusiastic responses in China. Chinese government departments, such as Office of the National Bureau of Statistics, the Ministry of Science and Technology the State Council Information Office, Shaanxi Provincial Government, and particularly the Government of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, have granted their patronage to the Conference. About 60 government and business delegates from China attended the event.
